My Dad just picked up a 47 cj2a. It is completely stock and in great shape. It runs good except for the first tiny bit of throttle above idle. if you try to roll on the throttle smoothly it will stumble and stall. If you blip it and get the revs up a little bit then it will run fine. If runs smooth and strong at all other engine speeds. This makes it annoying in town and off road. Any ideas? I have not taken the carb apart yet. the jeep has been driven regularly and been well taken care of. I do not know if the previous owner rebuilt the carb or messed with it at all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I would start with replacing the points, condenser, plugs and fuel filter. Check and set timing, then look to the carb for issues. They are not complex carbs and a rebuild kit would be pretty easy for you to do.

    x2.

First, a basic tune up to get everything in spec. Otherwise you are chasing your tail.

Then, if hesitation persists, possibly the accelerator pump function, or a vacuum leak may be an issue.

A quick simple fix. Raise the metering rod slightly.

I would suggest scoutpilot probably is the first voice to listen to, regarding Jeep carbs.

Well My good man......you were right! A quick 3/32" bend of the rod that lifts the metering rod and "boom" It runs like a top from idle-up. Thank you all so much for the advice.
