Awesome! I gotta tell you. You accomplished more in a few months than I did in over 25 years. Between you and the other regular fellas here I've gotten more done in the last 6 mos than the last couple decades directly due to the motivation and inspiration I get here ( course there was the 2 divorces, 3 moves, working out of state...) This thread and some others keep me stoked and moving forward now. Congratulations and thanks for taking the time to share.

Dropped off middle boy at school, he was waving and saying hi to everyone we drove past like it was a holiday parade. I drove it to work today. All brutal city stop and go driving. Work today was in Bethesda Md. No issues except the clunk that i havent figured out yet. Its either transfer case mainshaft endplay or incorrectly isolated torque mount on transfer case. Transfer case whine is getting louder.

Its also got a slight whine when I first apply clutch and when finally released. When the fingers on the diaphragm release first touch the T/O bearing it quietly whines then stops. I am going to drive it unit it explodes and it might not ever. I left plenty of free play in the clutch before engaging. Good thing cause the brake fluid in the slave does expand a bit with the heat from the manifold.

Its about 80 degrees. Stop go city driving puts the temp fluctuating between 180 and 200. Oil pressure is still 25lbs at idle and idle is 675rpm give to take a bit. No cover over the transmission makes for a whole lot of hot air.

Transmission is warm to the touch, Rear differential is slightly warm. Everything seems to work excellent for a 68 year old junk pile. Cant believe it.

Tires could use a balance, 3rd gear need to shift slow to allow the synchronizer to slow down the gear or it grinds sometimes. 4th gear is good to go.

Parked my jeep in a parking garage and got a haircut and lunch. It just seems so weird to do that.

Drove through rock creek park on the way home and thought about some off road...... federal jail time for sure. Thought better about it. Its ok cause the road is so potholed i got to see how the suspension works anyway.

did some semi urban 4 wheeling today. I didnt take pics cause its not really legal. Drove it up some grass hills in a park that has some wetland and then drove it up a 12 or 18 set of stairs. They are longer shorter steps. Put it in 1st high range, thought I might high center.. nope. duh duh duh duh but faster is the noise it made.

Works flawlessly, rear tires dont hit the body, no issue with front.

Jeep is so narrow I had no trouble driving up the stairs in between the handrails on both sides. So fun.

    Update.

This morning I cut the front end spring mounts off the frame and moved them back an inch. The shackles were at an excessive angle for me and the were causing the shock to rub on the ford mounts I welded on. I was going to also install my new longer shackles but I ran out of time. This job was not simple, easy or enjoyable. Lots of grinding dust from a cutoff wheel in my face and real cramped quarters, but its welded back on, square and the same spot on both sides. One of my springs is about 1/2 inch longer than the other at rest. Guess I will buy new springs in the near future, maybe...

Just drove it around. Changed the spring rate a bit, handles good, moved the drag ling farther away from the tie rod. Guess it was required modification.

I decided that moving the spring mount back an inch wasn't a photo op and I really disliked doing that job. Lots of sparks to the face, just real irritating to see that one spring is longer than the other. I just made sure both mounts are the same measurement and fought with the spring to make it fit.

Been driving it like this for a month or so and its real nice. Handles well, steering is great. 7 degree positive caster makes it track right. The frame and chassis setup is really great.

Rebuilt a big hole dana 18 transfer case Dana 18 Rebuild and installed it. Seems to work well. Do have some other issues that may be driveshaft related. Ordered a Tom Wood custom driveshaft today.

Couple weeks back I did an alternator upgrade. Alternator Upgrade Due To Electric Fan has been working as I had hoped.

Engine runs good, transmission shifts OK, cooling system does its job well. I guess I am pretty happy. Still looking for perfect though....

That's for posting your whole build and thanks again for the inspiration.
Spent the last 2 weeks slowly reading through it all, and as I am sad the reading is over I know the story never ends.

Now to get out and start rebuilding my CJ.

I was going to make a tow bar, but saw I could buy one compete for under 60 bucks shipped to my house. I know, I could have made one much better, but 60 bucks, Amazon prime?

I got it and its about the quality I expect. Fair and serviceable and ok for a light jeep. The bolts are all high quality chitanium alloy that only comes from China. The welds are China quality too. It might be alright.

    Mock up
    [IMG]

Bolted on with 7/16" grade 8 through bolts. Its what I had. For sure something else will fail in this tow bar assembly before the bolts I had to use. The ones it came with are only to go through the C channel of a wrangler or something. It should be fine.

Quick detach pins mean I don't have to drive around with it on. No hold for the up position yet or maybe ever.

Do yourself a favor and figure out to hold it up. I was just moving my 3B around the campground to it's parking spot and the tow bar fell down so my front wheels were off of the ground and the rear drive shaft was removed for flat towing. So, I had to put the rear drive shaft back in to get it off of the tow bar.
I looked around and nobody saw me do it so there no pictures. It didn't happen.

Too bad you're so far away. I have a nice tow bar that I haven't used for the last 15 years since I got my trailer. I'd give it to you. Probably would be cost prohibitive to ship.

Yeah, I though about doing that. I may still do it if i don't like how it tows. No matter what I do, its still a 60 buck tow bar getup from china.

Thats real nice of you. Thanks for the thought.

I am thinking I might not ever leave the tow hitch on.;) As soon as I get done towing to wherever I would take it off. Thats the idea and the reason I haven't made a holder upper.

I had one on my first 2A and it was home made one. Don't think it was the immediate PO work cause it was good. I had a holder upper on that an would lock it with a padlock in the up position. Too easy to just hook up and drive off with it.(y)
