My 58 CJ5 did not come with a heater so I have collected the parts. My question is hookup, since I don't have a preexisting to view. On the controls, there are 3 cables. I know one goes to the diverter box under the dash for defrost (I assume the one labeled defroster) vs heat, one goes to the engine compartment to the fresh air box but which one, temp control or air control. And where does the other hook up? The blower motor and controls all came from same vehicle (a 60 or 61 I believe) and it has a red and a yellow wire but the switch has this white pigtail. Help and pics will really be appreciated. I'm thinking I'm still missing a piece. Walcks told me there was a manual turn valve on the heater hose on some of the later ones that allowed you to total shut off water flow for summer time, but that would not involve a cable. A pic of the engine compartment and under dash would really help. Thanks.

Defrost cable goes to diverted defrost valve under dash

Temp cable goes to a valve in line with the heater hoses that IS cable operated and doesn't let coolant flow to the heater

Air control cable goes to the heater box on the firewall inside the engine compartment

Also just as an FYI the switch should have an off and low and hi selection.

I did talk to him and he said it was a manual turn that they offer, but that doesn't make sense to me to have a cable but be manual. I did find this which makes more sense. And it shows vehicle compatibility.

The picture you attached shows a manual switch or valve (as opposed to electrically or pneumatically controlled). You manually pull or push the cable which moves that arm on top of the pictured valve. Closed, no water flows, opened water flows. I think there may be some confusion with the term manual. In this case I don't think that it means you would actually manipulate a valve by hand.

Yeah, I agree it makes no sense ....there had to be a cable controlled valve. The one you show is obviously the same concept as what I posted just a different design. It should certainly work for what you want it for.

Gonna order it from Amazon and try it. The one at either Walcks or Kaiser is a you use your hand under the hood to your hand manually turn it. They are not cable setup.

The one I linked to is the cable setup, and it's the correct one for the wagons/trucks. The Amazon one is certainly very similar.

I just ordered on of those for the 55 wagon so I'm gonna pull it out of the box that came Saturday and see how it might work first.

i would bet it would be something like this is what it had originally. but there is also a 90 degree valve that screws into the engine and is cable operated to do the same thing. or you could buy a 90 degree shut off valve that doesnt connect to the cable you just have to open the hood and turn the handle to shut off. any of these should work but only that link would probably be semi-original

now that i look at the first one i dont see where the cable would be screwed down to, so the valve operates without moving the whole cable

I saw those too but that's why I think the other one I found makes more sense. I've tried finding a pic of under the hood showing it, but no luck so far.

I'll try to look at my wagon later, same controls. Heater setup itself is different.

You'll notice that the 2 tabs visible in the first picture are reasonably close together. The power in is spaced obviously separated from them. My switch has the power in at the bottom, is there a tab there? Or evidence of a busted off one maybe? The yellow wire goes to the top left and the red to the top right. The switch works from right to left....far right is off, first position to left is lo and far left is hi.

I'll have to look under the dash, but my jeep doesn't have a valve to shut off the flow. There are hookups in the heater box for all three cables. Defrost obviously works the diverter door in the output, one cable works the flapper in the box in the engine compartment, and there's another door in there somewhere....

Have you got the control setup that is pictured? Or is it the newer control setup?
