So one of the bearings failed on my Warn OD and destroyed some gears in my Dana 18. The jeep has been out of commision all summer. Since I can't quite afford to pay Herm the OD guy, I just took it out. My top speed went from 69 MPH to 54 MPH.....:(

Bummer! Was it getting proper lube? Insufficient lube kills more of them than anything else. Not that difficult to rebuild yourself.

Ouch. But another way of looking at it is that your top speed went from Zero to 54mph when you removed it... simpler systems are less vulnerable.

Both Herm and Advance Adapters sell repair parts. Warn does not.

I haven't thought of rebuilding it myself. I will have to look into that. Anyone rebuild one before?

Warn stopping making the Warn OD and selling parts many years ago.

Now its Herm for Warn, and Advance Adapters for the Saturn OD, which is essentially a slightly changed Warn if I recall correctly. (They bought the rights/designs from Warn I think????)

I've worked on them myself. With the exception of the cage gears, it's pretty straight forward. The last one I did, I sent the cage to Herm to have the bearings and gears pressed in using his jig. I did everything else on it.

    Working fine ;)

Those planetary gears have needle bearings in them, and they're pretty small so they're something of a challenge.
Some trans assembly grease and a short piece of a proper sized dowel rod made it a lot easier.
