Anybody know what this bracket is for? It is mounted in the center of the inside of the Windshield. Has a square hole in the center.

Note this is not my Pic, found it when researching where to mount the rear view mirror. I have the bracket and assumed it was a PO modification for the rear view mirror, now thinking it is something that came with the jeep or hardtop perhaps.

Also, not sure the Rear view mirror mounts on top of the bracket, but mounts off to the side closer to the driver. If anybody can help me sort this out for my 67CJ6, I would appreciate it.

If you don't have the top that goes with it, remove it.

I believe it is also used to strap the windshield to the hood when it's down, at least that is what my Uncle uses it for on his 65 CJ5

the tie down for the windshield is to the left of the mirror and bracket.
mirror is in the correct place, based on my 70CJ5.

I had a 69 CJ5 30+ years ago that had a Kayline soft top on it that had a bracket just like that. A rod attached to the bracket with a bolt and wing nut. the other end of the rod fit into a hole in center of the top bow behind the drivers seat. If you no longer have the old top the bracket is of no use.

Was originally for strapping down the windshield to the hood.

Nope. The hood strap goes through the footman loop that you can see in the picture of the windshield.

    Jeepers69 has got it.
