Re-reading your original post, i wonder if the smooth tread pattern on the old tires was the cause of the chatter and jump.

I think I bought 5 of the 8 ply HDT 15" mounted and balanced for like 750 or so.

No, I am pretty sure the problem is the goofy two leaf spring pack.

Went to Americas tire today and they said discontinued on the HDTs, but have another possibility.

I wouldn't hold my breath. All three jeeps that I have done shackle reversals to have ended up with a bouncier front end than they had before the reversal. Two of them were spring swaps as well, but one was just a reversal. Better ride, but alot more front end bounce on the trail.

My A1 doesn't do any of that goofy stuff. The stock A1 leaf packs have a ton of thin leaves, that is somebody's aftermarket spring setup. I currently have a Black Diamond 3" lift on my A1 with their shocks. Running 33 10.5 BFG MT's at 12 psi which helps more than a little...

I just put a set of Hankook MT's on my '44 MB. They are little, 215 75 15 on some 15x7 black rims. I was hoping to increase the traction over the NDT's as well as smooth the ride. I ran the tube type NDT's at 10 psi and the Hankook's are currently at 11. The ride and traction both FAR exceeded my expectations. Regardless of what size tire you go to, I would seriously not consider running anything other than a radial tire. I know you may have to save a little longer, but it will be worth it.

The little Hankook's were cheap, advertised at $120 a tire and I beat up the local Discount manager where I got 5 out the door for $599.95. With 5 Jeg's Baja 8's it was $875 total. Mounted them myself. The Hankook is a nice looking old school chevron pattern but has side-biter style sidewalls. I'll buy another set based on this experience.

My front springs are wrapping up, axle wrap = traction loading and unloading, which is the cause of the bounce and chatter....and I am 99% sure that it's because the thin packs are not thick enough to resist the twist. Maybe I'll get out there and do a video.

Regular old trail bouncing is just a lack of shock damping.

I did a reversal on my '7 years ago, and ended up changing it back because of brake drive and wander, but it actually rode better.

So there's the paintjob, new stripes 'n all. Haven't gotten decent tires for it yet, probably some 31x10.50 A/Ts.

    Looks good.

So, how many feet of snow did you get in El Centro this winter?

Jus' kidding. I've been many times to and thru the Imperial Valley; rarely saw it below 70 degrees.
