Looking for yalls 2 cent's worth.

It's a 1967 Jeep V6 that is driven 75% off-road and sees highway speed rarely/briefly. I have done the 11" brake swap, and brakes currently do good job of stopping the jeep.

Right now I have the transmission out for a sm465 swap, and the body on. I have thought about installing Herm's dual reservoir master cylinder for safety due to fear of having a brake hose fail. However, I have read it is hard to do with the body on, and requires new brake lines which I don't know how to bend. I have no plan in the near future of taking the body off.

If it ain't broke don't fix it, or tackle it now since I have decent access with the tranny out?

I have experienced failing brakes before in an old Chevy and didn't care for it, but downshifting and luck got me out of trouble.

If you perform regular maintenance, check your fluid levels, and crawl around under the Jeep periodically, then most likely you would catch any brake fluid leak problem before disaster strikes: leak, spongy pedal, brakes pulling to one side, etc etc.
Replace any suspect wheel cylinders or rubber brake hoses.
Leave it as is in my opinion.

It sucks off-roading and losing all brakes, trust me. Ask me how I know  I do mostly road driving only so I'm probably gonna stay original a single cylinder. but if I were you I would probably upgrade to the dual cylinder for fear of going off a cliff. and remember after any water crossing you have 0 brakes, Again ask me how I know ....

"and requires new brake lines which I don't know how to bend."

Not difficult if you go slow, just don't kink one trying for too tight a radius. Easy with a cheap bending tool.

Well you want my 2 cents worth............Go with your own thought.......Herm's setup is not that bad to install with the body on , if you don't mine laying on your back. Just the Safety feature alone of the dual system in my mind is a no-brainer! You will have to cut two lines and as long as you have a tubing flare kit , flare the ends purge all the cut lines and get stainless pre-made flex hoses to do the final hookup. Just my Opinion!

I would upgrade the brakes if you have the money - they can go with out any warning at all and I bet you right now the emergency brake will not help you if you are going over 35 mph

I thought '67 was the 1st year for dual MC???
I have experienced total brake failure, going down a mountain grade, and it was hair raising!
Ironically, it wasn't caused by any brake system failure, but an exploding wheel bearing allowing
the rear axle & brake drum to slide out past the shoes. Convert to dual MC!

I thought that '68 was the first year.

It's easy enough to look at the MC and double check.

While working on my CJ, I checked the brake fluid in the MC and found out it was a dual MC.
    "Wagner Made in USA" marked.

Coulda been swapped in I suppose, but it looks like it's been there since new.

My '68 has Herm's MC Conversion. It comes out fine with the body on. You just have to work on your back which you might as well get used to if you own an early jeep. The brake lines may need some re-routing. Not that hard. It's a good opportunity to learn.

Some '67's had the split system, some did not. '67 was the year mandated for the change to the split system.

I guess I "lucked" out and got one of the single master cylinders before the split.

Like many others here I would switch to a dual M/C but that is what my 71' came with.
As others have said, brake lines are not terribly hard, get good tools for bends and flares and make sure to take your time.

Your 71 has dual? My parts Jeep 71 only had single, and mine even came with the V6

Bending brake lines nicely is an art form. For tight spots, bend a coat hanger to use as a template, then get out from under the jeep so you aren't up-side down and backwards and bend some lines.
