My newest mod! And a question on AA windshield latches.

Hey gang!


I've been finishing up some repairs to bring the Jeep back to daily driver duty since I'm selling off my Nissan. So until I get another ride, I'd like some cup holders. A quick trip to the sporting goods store and a hardware store yielded me this.

Now do you see anything wrong with just using this setup for soda cans, water bottles or small fast food cups? I know this probably isn't designed to hold much more weight, and I don't plan on using this off road. Just would like a place to put my drinks cruising around town. :tea:

 

You realize it's a bottle holder for a bicycle?

they are made for a specific size bottle, and may not hold other sizes well. But if you have something of the right diameter, it should hold just fine.

 

The bottle cage you have is a generic road bike version. You can much stouter mountain bike versions that will stand up to the pounding the jeeps get. You can also get brand name road & mountain cages that are fully caged, ie more forgiving for variations in size.

I plan on getting one of those and mounting it to my roll bar. Great idea.

 

It was supposed to be a tongue in cheek post, but of course, I have no luck getting it to translate.

Yeah, I wasn't really looking for a fancy caged mountain bike style holder like I have on my bike.

I really only use one size of cup, which fits perfect in these. If someone was planning of having more variation, I've seen a fancy cage bottle holder that is mounted on a pivot point. Supposedly if was supposed to be "self righting", that might suit an off road application.

For me though, I just needed something for the street. :stout:

 

I can see the toungue and cheek part, sure, but now I have to buy some of the AA hold downs and try it! I need some better hold downs anyway, the stock ones are a PITA to keep adjusted right.

Let us know if you find a way to keep a chili dog and fries on the dash to go with the drink. That would be nice. :drool:

The cup holders on that das n store 2 thing look pretty worthless-I like your idea much better!

thats pretty cool. all i did was the lazy thing where i went to wally world and bought a 2 cup, cup holder for 5 bucks thats made to just wedge in between the front seats in the crack.

Yeah, I can't imagine the mess using these off road would create.

An update.

I ended using these today. I was headed to the Four Wheel Parts customer appreciation run in Gorman, CA.
My buddy and I were riding in his truck, and its been making a weird "wub wub" noise for a couple weeks.
Well, he got bad gas, and it started pre detonating, then something started banging, so we broke down.

Had car towed, disconnected CJ, popped driveshaft back in, and hopped on the freeway.
Put my can of Coke-Cola in the cupholder, and it didn't move or spill one bit (and I hit some biggg bumps!).

I still don't think these would work off road at all, but for city cruising, it works great for me!

 

Been driving with drinks in both every single day. Bottles of water, soda cans, and small fast food drinks fit perfect, no spill issues city driving.
