The only controls we have for the heater are for the fan. It's getting awefully warm in the Jeep with the top on it. It looks like there are a couple of levers on the heater unit and I'm hoping one of those will close off the heat. Does anybody know where that might be on there? I'm assuming there should be one for the defroster too, but I'm more interested in closing the heat door at the moment.
    Thanks

The way I do it is the lever close to elec motor ,control the heat. and the lever on top by the defroster is for the air. I shut both .

There are 3 controls. One if for heat/defrost, which simply diverts air up to the defroster tubes, located right above the tranny tunnel hump in the heater outlet plenum. Then there is a fresh air intake flap which opens the flapper door on the plenum under the fresh air vent in the cowl to allow outside air into the heater system. Think of this as the equivalent of the "fresh air/recirculate" setting on a more modern vehicle. The other flap is the heat control, which is a flapper door in the chamber with the heater core that adjusts how much air is going through the core. With it shut off no air should flow through the core and the heat will be in the "off" setting. It is located all the way up under the dash on the passenger's side behind the glove box. Kind of hard to reach.

Ok thanks guys. No glove box so the heat lever is easy to reach.;) I'll have to look around a bit more for the fresh air vent controls. I think I figured out the other two though.

You could fab up a small bracket to put under the dash with 4 holes in it; one each for the fan switch, fresh air, heat/defrost and heat control cables.

Original control panels for the intermediates are very hard to find in any condition. Mine is cracked and I've been looking for a replacement for quite a while.

I used universal cut-to-length choke cables. $6 each from Jegs. They work perfectly, but the knobs aren't original. You could swap knobs to make them look original.

That's what I did for mine - used the core from the original cables and the sheath from a universal cable.

The washers were added to reinforce the cracked panel.

That's what I did. I used a piece of aluminum angle long enough for the 4 holes and for a radio. My old heater control was cracked and rotted beyond repair. I used cables from Georges Jeep Parts.

I hope it helps. It isn't a perfect fix - to get the cores out, I had to straighten the loops in the ends that pull on the heater controls. If you heat up the cable ends (I used my gas stove) and let them cool, they will soften enough so you can straighten the wire. I put the loop back using an electrical ring terminal; I put the core wire through the crimp, bent the wire over the end and soldered. Works, but there may be a better way to put the loop back. There must be a cable end available somewhere that will clamp to the end of the wire and replace the loop.

There was a guy that had these made up with quality sheaths. I installed a set on my 74 when I restored it. I will try to dig out the info and get it to you guys. They worked out nice.

Good ideas! For the time being I saved the pics so I could at least tell what I'm supposed to have control of. ;)
This Jeep get really hot inside with the top on it, and the motor is running warm too. it's running a bit over two hundred degree. I need to change all the hoses so I'll see what thermostat it has in it at that time.
